Smith quits York for Mansfield

Adam Smith has rejected the opportunity of a new deal at York City and instead signed a one-year contract with Mansfield Town.

The 25-year-old struggled to make much of an impression at Bootham Crescent last season and was restricted to just eighteen starts and fifteen appearances from the bench. He scored twice.

"I'm absolutely over the moon and am already looking forward to my career with the Stags," Smith told Mansfield's official website.

"This club is going the right way. There is clear ambition here and the manager is determined to put the club back in the Football League. I have a good gut feeling about this move," he added.

Stags manager David Holdsworth responded: "I am delighted to capture someone of Adam's versatility. He can play on either wing and up front. He shows both pace and dynamism to our forward line."

Mansfield are also being linked with a move for released Gainsborough Trinity striker Luke Beckett.

Feeling pretty good about it myself, Adam. That's Mansfield amongst the complete no-hopers then.
