Young signs for Alfreton

York City's out-of-favour centre-back Greg Young has signed for Blue Square Bet Premier newcomers Alfreton Town.

"We have been interested in him for quite a while and fair play to him, while I know he didn't want to drop down a level to join us last season, he has chosen to come to us now when he could have had substantially more money" - Nicky Law
The 28-year-old struggled to establish himself in the first-team after arriving at Bootham Crescent last summer and eventually finished the season back on loan at former club Altrincham.

He made a dozen appearances for the Minstermen and scored once and has agreed a two-year deal with Alfreton.

"I am delighted with the signing of Greg. At 6'3'' he will give us plenty of power and he has loads of experience from the level we are now at to bring to the team," manager Nicky Law told Alfreton's official website.

"He was a young kid at Grimsby when I was manager there. I gave him his chance and he did really well. When we first came to Alfreton we brought him in on loan from Halifax Town but just as he got match fit, he was recalled.

"We have been interested in him for quite a while and fair play to him, while I know he didn't want to drop down a level to join us last season, he has chosen to come to us now when he could have had substantially more money with a club in the division we have just left."
