'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Keep backing my lads says Mills

York City manager Gary Mills has called for fans to keep backing his players and fired an angry blast at a few recent hecklers.

"What gets to me is Ashley Chambers getting booed off" - Gary Mills
That follows an adverse reaction from some quarters during last week's 3-0 home defeat to AFC Wimbledon - which was only their fourth loss in seventeen games since returning to the Football League.

Mills was particularly unhappy at the treatment handed out to six-goal leading scorer Ashley Chambers after being replaced midway through the second-half of that game

"What's important for everyone connected with York City is that we are progressing," Mills told The Press. "We've come a long, long way. We've come a long way with virtually the same set of players.

"What gets to me is Ashley Chambers getting booed off when he was brought off," he continued. "A lad who everyone knows anyway finds it hard, and has found it hard all through his football career, to have that confidence. A lad who scored a goal in the play-off final at Wembley. He needs applauding when he is on the field."

The Minstermen are currently five games without a win, which is their worst run so far this season, although four of those matches have still finished level at ninety minutes.
