Striker Jason Walker hopes the win at Rochdale will help signal a change of fortunes for York City.

"I was trying to take a touch and it's gone in the back of the net" - Jason Walker
The 28-year-old was on target for the first time in eight games as the determined visitors eventually came through with an excellent 3-2 victory at play-off chasing Rochdale.

Walker's fifth goal of the campaign in fact helped the Minstermen towards their first victory since netting the winner at Accrington Stanley back in late October.

"Things haven't been falling for us but, for my goal, I was trying to take a touch and it's gone in the back of the net," he told The Press. "I could say it was a perfect finish but it wasn't and that type of thing hasn't been happening recently. Hopefully, after Saturday, we will gain a lot of confidence and things will start going our way."

The highly-rated marksman admitted his was actually surprised to gain selection for the game ahead of fellow striker Jamie Reed, who had scored four times in his previous six appearances.

"He's done really well and he was unfortunate to be dropped," Walker added. "I wasn't expecting to play really but the manager gave me the nod and we played well and I scored, so it's ended up not being too bad for me."
