York City have recalled midfielder Jonathan Smith from his loan spell at Luton Town.

The 26-year-old scored his first goal for the Hatters at the weekend in a 3-0 home victory against Alfreton Town - one of seven appearances for the Conference club.

It means the Preston-born enforcer misses Luton's big promotion clash with former leaders Newport County at Rodney Parade later this evening.

Smith hasn't actually featured for the Minstermen since making his thirteenth appearance for them following his summer return in a 0-0 draw at Southend United at the end of October.

He goes straight into the City squad for the weekend arrival of Bristol Rovers to Bootham Crescent.
