Mills not doubting Thomas

York City teenage defender Tom Allan was praised by manager Gary Mills after making his senior debut at the weekend.

"I would be happy if we needed to play him against Gillingham" - Gary Mills
The eighteen-year-old appeared for the majority of the second-half after coming on as a substitute for ankle-injury victim Chris Doig during the 4-1 victory against Bristol Rovers. York-born Allan was actually preferred to the vastly experienced David McGurk, who was similarly available from the bench.

And Mills was already insisting he would have absolutely no hesitation in giving him his first start against league leaders Gillingham at the weekend should the need arise.

"Chris Doig was feeling his ankle a bit so we decided to put Tom on at 4-1 because I know he will just get on with the job," Mills told The Press. "He's a good defender who can pass the ball and head it.

"He's never nervous whatsoever, is always listening and learning and I would be happy if we needed to play him against Gillingham," he added. "It would not faze me and, more to the point, it would not faze him."
