Ward makes shock Rovers return

Former York City manager John Ward has made a shock return to Bristol Rovers until the end of the season.

It follows the dismissal of predecessor Mark McGhee immediately following their weekend 4-1 defeat to the Minstermen. Rovers currently sit just one place from the bottom of the Football League.

Ward, 61, was sacked by League One Colchester United in September and only last week made a verbal agreement to become director of football at Plymouth Argyle.

His previous spell in charge of Rovers came between 1993-96, and he has also managed Bristol City, Cheltenham Town and Carlisle United after being assistant to Graham Taylor at both Watford and Aston Villa earlier in his career.
