Chambers blow for City

York City could be without the services of leading scorer Ashley Chambers for a number of weeks.

"It's looking like we might be without him for quite a long period" - Gary Mills
The 22-year-old has already scored eight times this season but has suffered a recurrence of a stomach injury that had left him doubtful for the postponed weekend clash with leaders Gillingham.

With a visit to a specialist already lined up, Chambers will therefore play no part in the Minstermen's festive games - starting at Chesterfield later this afternoon.

"Ashley Chambers definitely won't be fit for today," manager Gary Mills told The Press. "He trained on Saturday when the game was called off and he's gone down with the same problem, which is more to do with his stomach than his groin.

"It's looking a longer problem than we first thought," he added. "I don't know the extent of damage at this moment in time and he will be seeing a specialist but it's looking like we might be without him for quite a long period, which is a massive blow for us."

As a result, Mills was expected to step up his search for a striker during the January transfer window, with Michael Coulson and Oli Johnson both currently ruled out and Alex Rodman's loan shortly up.
