Mills complains at half-measures

York City boss Gary Mills was left bemoaning a poor second-half display in which his side conceded three times as Chesterfield eventually ran-out 3-0 winners at the Proact Stadium.

The Minstermen had earlier appeared the more probable victors until Spireites' defender Drew Talbot opened the scoring with his first goal of the season right at the start of the second period before substitute Danny Whitaker and Tendayi Darikwa later added to it.

"It's a 90 minute game and we have got to go and play the second how we played the first," Mills told BBC Radio York. "We were on our front foot first half and made it difficult for them.

"I thought we responded well for five minutes after they scored, probably our best spell of the second half and then when you concede the second and then a very, very sloppy third it's disappointing," he added. "We have to be able to play to that level like we did first half to get a result out of this league. Forty five is not enough."

Mills' side face another difficult-looking challenge at play-off chasing Fleetwood Town this coming weekend before hosting Burton Albion at Bootham Crescent on New Year's Day. Both clubs have already defeated York by two-goal margins earlier this season.
