Defender confident of extending career

York City centre-back Davis McGurk remains confident his troublesome knee injury can still stand up to the rigours of the professional game.

"I am 30 now so I can manage it and play for another three or four years" - David McGurk
The 30-year-old Middlesbrough-born defender returned to the starting line-up following a long twelve-month absence for the battling weekend draw with promotion-chasing Fleetwood Town.

And now he fully expects to continue playing on until his mid-thirties and was quick to refute claims that his lengthy injury had been career threatening at any stage.

"I've heard stuff about my knee being shot or I've fallen out with the manager but none of that is true," McGurk told The Press. "I perhaps have one bad day a month when it swells up. If I was 21 or 22, I probably would not get through my career but I am 30 now so I can manage it and play for another three or four years."

Club stalwart McGurk has already made over 250 senior appearances for the Minstermen since first arriving on loan at the club from Darlington more than eight years ago.
