Former York City defender Clarke Carlisle has earned himself an eighteen-month contract at League Two rivals Northampton Town.

"He was a key part of us staying up last year and he is a leader" - Aidy Boothroyd
The 33-year-old appeared fourteen times for the Minstermen after arriving on a short-term deal in August, until manager Gary Mills decided to release him early.

Since then the much-travelled former Burnley, QPR and Blackpool centre-back has featured five times on loan at Sixfields, where he now remains until at least the summer of 2014.

"I am delighted to have Clarke on board," Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd told Northampton's official website. "He was a key part of us staying up last year and he is a leader, he has plenty of experience and he is a superb addition to the squad."
