Striker goes back home

York City's out-of favour striker Liam Henderson has joined hometown club Gateshead permanently following a recent loan spell.

"He has now got half a season to get his career back on track" - Anth Smith
The 23-year-old former Watford forward arrives at the International Stadium until the end of the current season after agreeing a settlement with his Bootham Crescent employers.

Henderson has always found opportunities particularly restricted since joining York in May 2011 following four years at Vicarage Road. He only managed a few fleeting appearances and hadn't featured at all this season after spending much of the previous campaign on loan to Forest Green Rovers.

"Henderson has started the last two games and has done well in training," manager Anth Smith told Gateshead's official website. "He has a good attitude and work ethic.

"It hasn't gone as well as he would have liked at York City but he has now got half a season to get his career back on track," he continued. "He has good experience for a young lad, has plenty of potential and has now got the chance to play for his hometown club."
