Minstermen receive timely boost

York City receive a major boost this evening with talented midfield prospect John McReady returning to duty for their North Riding Senior Cup quarter-final clash with Northallerton Town at Bootham Crescent (kick-off 7.45pm).

"We were nurturing him into that wide position and he was doing really well" - Gary Mills
The 20-year-old originally moved to the Minstermen from Darlington last summer but suffered a dislocated shoulder when appearing as a substitute in the 0-0 draw with Cheltenham Town back in September.

McReady will be joined in the starting line-up by eight other players with senior experience as Paul Musselwhite, Jon Challinor, Lanre Oyebanjo, Tom Allan, Danny Blanchett, Lee Bullock, Jamie Reed and Reece Kelly are similarly included, along with first-year professional Tom Platt - who was on the bench against Exeter City at the weekend.

"It will be a bonus to have him back in the areas that he can play," York manager Gary Mills told The Press. "He can play as an attacking midfielder but, before his injury, we were nurturing him into that wide position and he was doing really well.

"We've got another reserve game lined up for next Tuesday against Sunderland so there will be a couple of reserve fixtures for him to get his fitness levels and sharpness back to something like."

Meanwhile, York's weekend opponents Cheltenham were humbled 5-1 at home by Premier League Everton in their FA Cup third round meeting last evening.
