York City goalkeeper Michael Ingham believes the welcome return of the long-serving David McGurk into central defence has brought his side increased calmness at the back.

"Everyone loves him because he's a great lad in the changing room" - Michael Ingham
The 30-year-old immediately helped the Minstermen to a couple of clean sheets after making his comeback from almost a year out of action with a series of knee, calf and throat problems.

McGurk is currently halfway through his benefit season after more than eight years of tremendous service to the club since first arriving on loan from Darlington back in September 2004. He made his 300th appearances for them in the weekend defeat to Exeter City.

"TY has been brilliant since coming back into the side after having to play a patient game following his injury," Ingham told The Press. "He's been a great servant to the football club and everyone loves him because he's a great lad in the changing room.

"He reads the game so well and has that knack of being in the right position before the ball arrives there," he added. "He's strong in the air, quite quick for a big man and can clear with both feet."
