Keeper still keen to head upfield

Former Northern Ireland international goalkeeper Michael Ingham is still fancying claiming the first-ever goal of his career after once again going close at the weekend.

"Hopefully though I will get on the end of one and score" - Michael Ingham
The 32-year-old was despatched upfield for an injury-time corner during the narrow 2-1 home defeat to Exeter City and actually managed to get on the end of the subsequent delivery. But unfortunately skipper Chris Smith wasn't able to turn in an equaliser at the far post.

Ingham is rapidly closing in on four-hundred senior games during a well-travelled career which has also taken him to Hereford United, Wrexham, Sunderland and Cliftonville, plus having a series of loan spells with the likes of Doncaster Rovers, Darlington, Stockport County, Stoke City and Carlisle United.

"I've gone up for three corners this season and I think I've got on the end of all three," he told The Press. "I always go up and try to get the lads running in behind me because, for some reason, defenders never want a goalkeeper to score.

"I got a flick to it but, unfortunately, Smudge just could not reach the ball to tap it in," Ingham added. "Hopefully though, by the end of my career, I will get on the end of one and score."
