Mariners rule out striker

Conference pacesetters Grimsby Town have ruled out any approach for York City striker Jamie Reed.

"He's a striker who scores goals but seems to play second fiddle to Jason Walker" - Paul Hurst
The 25-year-old was transfer-listed by the Minstermen earlier this week after requesting a move due to a continuing lack of opportunities.

Former club Wrexham and Grimsby have both been linked with a possible move for a player who has still shown an ability to find the net despite restricted chances. However, the Mariners have since decided to distance themselves from that speculation.

"He's not a possibility. We spoke about him last year at some point, but at the moment that won't be happening," their assistant manager Paul Hurst told This is Grimsby. "He's a striker who scores goals but there he seems to play second fiddle to Jason Walker. I don't envisage anything happening there."

Grimsby already recruited ex-York striker Richard Brodie on loan from Crawley Town until the end of the season only last week.
