Derry City striker David McDaid has been identified as one of the three Irishmen due for trials with York City.

The 21-year-old remains keen to secure a future career playing in England despite seeing a recent move to Fleetwood Town collapse.

McDaid was due to leave Derry this weekend to spend a few days trying to impress at Bootham Crescent.

He originally began his career with Derby County until joining Sligo Rovers on loan in July 2008. A further loan spell followed for him at Finn Harps before McDaid played a leading role in Derry clinching the League of Ireland First Division title in 2010.

This season he has enjoyed his most prolific campaign for the club while scoring seventeen goals in all competitions.
