York City's new striker Ben Everson always had ambitions of a professional football career in England but had to travel the world until managing to get his opportunity.

"I've ended up signing for a club just an hour from home" - Ben Everson
Middlesbrough-born Everson made his debut in the scoreless draw against Aldershot Town last weekend after playing spells in Iceland and the United States followed time spent with the slightly more homely Guisborough Town and Shildon

"I did not think playing in England would be a possibility but I wanted to give it a try and contacted an agent after the season ended in Iceland in September and he said he could sort me out with a trial at York," the 25-year-old forward told The Press. "I think any boy that grows up in England always wants to be a professional footballer but my route there has been a bit strange.

"I have been joking with my family that I've had to go all the way to America and Iceland to make it and I've ended up signing for a club just an hour from home but I'd like to thank the manager for giving me that chance," Everson continued. "I've been really impressed with all the lads and coaching and am enjoying my time at the club."

Everson is one of three players so far recruited by the Minstermen during the January transfer window alongside defensive duo Jack O'Connell (Blackburn Rovers) and Jameel Ible (Salford City).
