Minstermen close in on second striker

York City are closing in on a deal for Derry City striker David McDaid.

"I am 99 per cent confident that he will become a York City player" - Gary Mills
The 22-year-old has impressed manager Gary Mills whilst on trial and has already agreed personal terms, with the deal expected to go through once a compensation fee has been decided.

McDaid is currently a free-agent after scoring seventeen times for League of Ireland side Derry last season and recently saw a proposed move to York's League Two rivals Fleetwood Town collapse.

"I'm a big fan of David McDaid and I've agreed terms with him," Mills told The Press. "We are now trying to tie things up with Derry because he's under 24 so there will be a compensation fee and that's the stumbling block.

"But I'm doing everything possible to get things sorted and I am 99 per cent confident that he will become a York City player," he added.

Meanwhile, fellow trialist, ex-Barnsley and Cheltenham Town winger Martin Devaney, 32, won't be joining the club.

However, a busy Mills has already recruited former Breidablik striker Ben Everson in addition to defensive pair Jack O'Connell (Blackburn Rovers) and Jameel Ible (Salford City) during the January transfer window.
