Minstermen opt against defender

York City won't be signing Northern Ireland Under-21 international left-back Dean Jarvis at the present time.

"It was 0-0 at half-time and the players had done superbly well" - Gary Mills
The 20-year Institute defender appeared for the Minstermen in a 6-0 defeat at Blackburn Rovers reserves on Tuesday ahead of a possible move to Bootham Crescent.

Jarvis already had a previous short trial with the club a few weeks ago and was the subject of interest from a number of other clubs, including Premier League Norwich City.

"We looked at him yesterday and decided that, at the moment, we are not going to do anything," Mills told The Press. "We lost 6-0 but it was a very strong Blackburn side with a lot of first-team players.

"It was a good work-out and, although it's easy to say, the scoreline doesn't really reflect the game," he added. "It was 0-0 at half-time and the players had done superbly well. We had a few young players in there and others that needed a game."

York included the likes of Oli Johnson, John McReady, Alex Rodman, Jon Challinor, Lee Bullock, Tom Allan and recent signings Ben Everson, Jameel Ible and David McDaid, and held a Blackburn side featuring international strikers David Goodwillie and Nuno Gomes for about an hour until a flurry of late goals.

Meanwhile, the Minstermen have received a work permit for McDaid and the 22-year-old former Derry City marksman could make his debut against Morecambe this weekend.
