Centre-back Chris Doig is the latest York City defender to be ruled out for an extended period due to requiring ankle surgery.

"Something in there isn't right that needs an operation" - Gary Mills
The 31-year-old Scot has been consigned to a role of spectator since his last game at Chesterfield on Boxing Day and now faces an operation which will keep him out of action for a 'few weeks'.

"He's got a problem in his ankle," York manager Gary Mills confirmed to The Press. "There is a little bit of a tear between his Achilles and his ankle bone. Something in there isn't right that needs an operation - not a serious operation but something that is going to keep him out for a few weeks."

Mills also recently lost the services of right-back Lanre Oyebanjo for around six weeks after suffering a fractured skull during the latest draw at Gillingham.

Those losses have seen a trio of new defenders, Blackburn Rovers' Jack O'Connell, Swansea City's Curtis Obeng and Jameel Ible from Salford City, arriving to boost the squad at Bootham Crescent.

Good game and decent teams - Penney

York City assistant manager Dave Penney believes it was a case of a couple of well-matched teams following the 2-2 draw with Spennymoor Town at Bootham Crescent.

York City 2 Spennymoor Town 2

Both sides were denied a sixth consecutive victory as York City twice led against promotion rivals Spennymoor Town at Bootham Crescent.

On loan defender Jonny Burn's third goal in nine games earned them a half-time lead that was cancelled out by Ryan Hall soon after the restart.

But Aidan Connolly restored the home advantage with seventeen minutes remaining, although that was swiftly matched by Andrew Johnson as the honours were eventually shared.
