York City manager Gary Mills felt the 4-1 scoreline flattered Morecambe as his side slipped to a sixth home defeat of the season.

"The last 20 minutes has been awful and another game where we should have got something out of it" - Gary Mills
The visitors cruised to a commanding victory after being helped along the way by more dreadful defending from their lacklustre opponents.

Goalkeeper Michael Ingham made a hash of an attempted clearance as the Shrimps reclaimed a lead earlier cancelled out by Jason Walker's penalty, and they later added a couple more on the break as York pushed central defender Chris Smith into attack in search of an equaliser.

The Minstermen have now recorded just four victories in fifteen attempts in front of their own supporters this season.

"Second-half we've had two unbelievable chances to go two one up and we haven't taken them again and then we've been punished," Mills reflected to BBC Radio York. "The fourth goal, just the lad getting between my two centre-halves is diabolical. The last 20 minutes has been awful and another game where we should have got something out of it."

Faltering York next travel to Wycombe Wanderers followed by successive home games against leaders Gillingham and struggling Barnet.

York City appear to be left scrapping for a play-off place at best following a rather flattering 3-2 defeat at promotion rivals Salford City.

Skipper Liam Hogan - who scored for the hosts in the FA Cup meeting between the two clubs five weeks ago - netted in each half and either side of Jack Redshaw's long overdue strike.

Late replies from substitutes Louis Almond and Aidan Connolly simply masked another seriously inept performance from their opponents.
