Striker Michael Rankine said it was good to be home after returning to York City on loan from Aldershot Town until the end of the season.

"I'm happy coming back up north to where I belong - it feels good to be home" - Michael Rankine
The 28-year-old Yorkshireman made his second 'debut' for the Minstermen last night as they fought out a scoreless draw with away specialists Gillingham - who were seeking a club record eleventh league victory on their travels this season.

"My manager [Dean Holdsworth] rang and said York wanted me. Really, it was a no brainer," Rankine told BBC Radio York. "It's been brilliant. I'm happy coming back up north to where I belong - it feels good to be home."

Rankine managed to complete the full ninety minutes and was especially prominent during the opening half against the Gills despite having little action at Aldershot so far this season.

"I've hardly played this season, five minutes here and there is no good for me - I'm nowhere near fitness," he added. "Every game I'll get fitter and sharper. I know I'll have to sit out some games but I'm looking forward to working hard as part of this squad."
