York City boss Gary Mills expects skipper Chris Smith to return for the crucial weekend visit of Barnet.

"We are right on the edge defensively for players that are available" - Gary Mills
The 31-year-old missed the midweek draw with Gillingham due to a foot injury but should be available to boost a defence already lacking a number of individuals.

Full-back Jon Challinor became the latest absentee after breaking his fibula against the Gills, leading to an anticipated six-week spell on the sidelines. Lanre Oyebanjo (fractured skull), Chris Doig (ankle) and David McGurk (hamstring) were already ruled out.

"We are confident Chris Smith will be okay for the weekend," Mills told The Press. "We are right on the edge defensively for players that are available.

"If he is fit, we may move Dan Parslow again, who went in at centre-half and did a superb job," he added. "We haven't had a settled back four for a while. We want to go to the next game with the same back four but injuries have stopped us doing that."
