Striker returns to a challenge

York City striker Ryan Bowman must improve his poor disciplinary record says manager Nigel Worthington.

"I have added it up and he has missed a third of the season" - Nigel Worthington
Having served a four-match ban following his recent sending-off at Southend United, the 22-year-old marksman is available for selection for the key Boxing Day visit to Accrington Stanley.

That was the second time that Bowman had been dismissed this season and followed his red card at Bristol Rovers in August - and while both decisions were certainly highly dubious, Worthington insists the player must still take full responsibility.

"Hopefully, when he comes back, he will stay on the pitch because I have added it up and he has missed a third of the season. That situation is down to Ryan, not the referees' fault," he told The Press. "He's still got to work hard and do what he needs to do for the team, but go about it in the right way and be careful."

Meanwhile, York's players will be in for training on Christmas Day ahead of a couple of crucial away games at Accrington and Bury.

"Christmas and Easter are probably our busiest times of the year. It's when we work and it's as simple as that," Worthington added. "The players had a rest day yesterday but will train today and tomorrow and anybody who wants to come and join us for a 5.30pm session on Wednesday is welcome to do so."
