Bentley blames defence

Morecambe boss Jim Bentley was critical of his side following their New Year's Day defeat to York City.

"They chased everything down, stopped us from playing" - Jim Bentley
Recalled striker Ryan Jarvis' ninth goal of the season was enough to finally earn the struggling Minstermen their first win since the end of October.

"We knew we could exploit the
weaknesses in York, we knew where there strengths were and had done a lot of homework but it all boils down to people not doing their jobs from a corner and that's the most disappointing thing," Bentley told the Morecambe Visitor. "We've had one chance to clear it, then another and the third chance they've put it in the net because no-one`s marking him [Jarvis] in front of big Baz [Barry Roche].

"Once we gave a team like York who haven't won much lately a goal, the crowd got behind them and they had something to cling on to," he added. "They chased everything down, stopped us from playing and apart from Jack Redshaw's chance we didn't create enough in the second half."
