Newcomer Penn scripts City rise

New midfield general Russell Penn is certainly ready to help York City rise up the League Two table.

"There is no reason why we can't have a good spurt up the league and that's our aim" - Russell Penn
The 28-year-old signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Minstermen yesterday after more than 350 senior career appearances during spells with Cheltenham Town, Burton Albion and Kidderminster Harriers.

"If you win four games on the trot you can be right up there so we have just got to keep picking up points between now and the end of the season and who knows then where that can take you?," Penn told The Press. "There is no reason why we can't have a good spurt up the league and that's our aim, but we will be taking things one game at a time."

Penn originally hails from Dudley and thus rejoins fellow Midlander and former Cheltenham colleague Keith Lowe at Bootham Crescent. The 28-year-old Wolverhampton-born centre-back today signed a permanent two-and-a-half-year deal with the club following a successful loan.

"Keith is somebody I have a lot of respect for," Penn added. "He's played the game at a high level and he's a true professional who works hard and knows the game."
