York City Ladies hit the top

York City Ladies moved top of the table with a 2-0 victory at Peterlee St Francis Ladies on Sunday afternoon.

The Minsterbelles triumphed with a goal in each half from player of the game Alicia Smith and Nikki Brown.

The visitors now lead the North East Regional Premier Division by two points as former table-toppers Norton and Stockton Ancients Ladies weren't in action. However, their rivals have three games-in-hand, although they must yet twice face third-placed Hull City.

The current two front-runners shared four goals just seven days ago when visitors York were only denied by a late injury-time equaliser.

Meanwhile, City's free-scoring reserves also went top of the North Riding Women's League following a 4-1 win at Brompton Ladies, increasing their current goal-difference to +98.

Goalscorers for the visitors were Ellie Randall with a brace and further efforts from player of the match Jess Barnes and Holly Smith.

York's reserves similarly move a couple of points clear after Redcar Town Ladies' home meeting with York St John's Ladies was postponed. Redcar have though played a game less.

Manager Martin Gray was surprisingly upbeat despite York City relinquishing their hold on the FA Trophy in very disappointing fashion at Kidderminster Harriers.
