Thumbs up for young Tom

Manager Nigel Worthington praised the contribution of York-born Tom Allan after being drafted into the side that held leaders Rochdale at Spotland.

"He comes out with a lot of credit after doing a very good job for us" - Nigel Worthington
The tall nineteen-old defender was given an unfamiliar left-back position and helped the battling Minstermen keep a seventh consecutive clean-sheet against the in-form title hopefuls. That in turn extended their unbeaten run to a dozen games.

"It is good for him that we got a performance and a result like that with him in the team," Worthington told The Press. "They had a big lad out there on the right in Peter Vincenti who won his fair share of headers in the first half and we weren't over happy about that.

"But we gave Tom a few pointers at half-time and he stuck to his task, got stronger and stronger as the game went on and he comes out with a lot of credit after doing a very good job for us to show everybody what qualities he possesses."

Meanwhile, Worthington confirmed that on loan Ben Davies' absence was due to a knee injury and not related to recent spot-fixing allegations concerning a number of Preston North End players. He should still be available to face Accrington Stanley next weekend.
