CITY LADIES TRIUMPH IN CUP FINAL

York City Ladies have won the North Riding FA Cup with a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Middlesbrough in Stokesley.

The Minsterbelles were twice pegged back following a scoreless opening half and the two sides still remained locked together at 2-2 after ninety minutes of action.

Both then missed a penalty during their five spot-kicks before York sensationally triumphed in sudden death after their goalkeeper Chloe Precious saved for a second time.

City Ladies therefore take revenge for their 3-0 defeat to the same opposition in the final of last season's competition.

They had gone ahead when Nikki Brown's 56th minute cross was converted by Sara Ranfrew. However, Boro equalised ten minutes later - only for Lauren Shuttleworth to reclaim the lead from substitute Lisa Bjornstaad's pass with fifteen minutes remaining.

But the destination of the trophy was soon back in the balance as Boro immediately drew level from a penalty.

Into the penalty shoot-out and Ruth Brazier and Brown were both successful for the Belles before Precious saved their opponents' third spot-kick. Bjornstaad and Jess Barnes also netted for City but in between Shuttleworth lifted over the crossbar.

It was now down to sudden death and goalkeeper Precious denied Boro again, to leave Ashlee Brack to fire home the winning penalty as the celebrations began.
