York City boss Nigel Worthington has paid tribute to on loan goalkeeper Nick Pope, who is returning to parent club Charlton Athletic.

"I am immensely proud and privileged to have been a part of York City over the past 5 months" - Nick Pope
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a massively successful spell at Bootham Crescent and is already expected to seriously challenge for a regular starting place at the Valley next season.

It leaves Worthington now forced to turn his attention elsewhere in order to find competition for the already-contracted Michael Ingham.

"Since coming in, Popey has taken pressure off the back four. He settled in straight away and has loved living in York and being at the football club," he told The Press. "It will be no surprise to me if he goes back to Charlton and gets in their team."

Meanwhile, Pope posted on social network site Twitter: "I am immensely proud and privileged to have been a part of York City over the past 5 months, it's been the best period of my career by far.

"The players have been outstanding to work with everyday and to play with every week. There's a very committed and gifted group of players at YCFC and the future's bright."

Harrogate Town 2 York City 0

York City went down to a sobering 2-0 defeat to National League North leaders Harrogate Town at the CNG Stadium.

The Minstermen were soon in arrears to their neighbours after goalkeeper Jon Worsnop brought down Jordan Thewlis and Joe Leesley converted the penalty.

Their task became even more difficult early in the second-half, Liam Agnew's effort taking a big deflection past Worsnop. Skipper Sean Newton later struck an upright but a recovery never appeared likely.
