Minstermen swoop for striker

York City have agreed personal terms with Barnet's transfer-listed 23-year-old striker Jake Hyde, who is moving to Bootham Crescent on a three-year contract.

However, the Minstermen are still to
settle on a compensation figure with the Conference Premier side due to the age
of the Maidenhead-born forward.

But manager Nigel Worthington is a long-time admirer of England 'C' international Hyde, who has scored 26 times in 69 appearances for the Bees over the past couple of seasons, until rejecting their latest offer of a one-year deal.

That followed earlier brief spells at Dundee, Dunfermline Athletic, Hayes & Yeading United and Weymouth, having originally begun his career as a trainee with Swindon Town.

"The Club has agreed personal terms with 23 year-old striker Jake Hyde to become a York City player on a three year contract," confirmed York's official website. "As Jake is under 24 years of age, a compensation payment will be due to Barnet Football Club."

"Jake has a proven track record of scoring goals in the Conference and in League Two and he is a player I wanted to keep but I wish him well for the future as he is a great lad," head coach Martin Allen told Barnet's official website. "The clubs have not yet agreed a compensation payment and if they fail to do so it will be decided at a tribunal."

Latest recruit Hyde announced the deal on social network site Twitter on Monday morning and was immediately congratulated by England Ladies football captain Steph Houghton, who described the switch to the League Two promotion hopefuls as a "big time" move.
