Notts County have snapped up ex-York City midfielder Nicky Wroe on a two-year deal.

"I found my opportunities limited and just got the impression that maybe I wasn't in his plans" - Nicky Wroe
The 28-year-old playmaker completed 54 appearances in two years at Preston
North End until being released at the end of last season.

But those included just seven games last term, when Wroe was instead sent out by Lilywhites' Ripon-born manager Simon Grayson for loan spells to former club Shrewsbury Town and Oxford United.

"Hopefully I can come back this season refreshed and stake claim for a spot here," he told BBC Radio Nottingham. "I found my opportunities limited and just got the impression that maybe I wasn't in his plans.

"After 15-20 games when guys are doing well you sometime have to have a rethink and try get out and play some games, so I went out on loan," Wroe added. "It was tough, especially after the season I had previously at Preston which was decent."
