York City Ladies fought back to beat rivals Hull City 3-2 at the Lakeside Sports Village on Wednesday evening.

The Minsterbelles found themselves trailing at the interval but recovered with a brace of second-half goals.

Jazz Whitwell was on target for the second successive game, while Beth Clayton and player of the game Ruth Brazier added further efforts. Sarah Owen and Rebecca Beech replied for the visitors.

The two teams meet again in the return fixture at the Hull University Sports Ground this coming weekend.

The result leaves York currently second in the table and with maximum points from their opening two games following on from their 2-0 weekend success over Scunthorpe & Bottesford Ladies.

In the other game of the evening, Brighouse Town Ladies won 4-2 at Castleford White Rose Ladies to top the division on goal-difference.

York City Ladies: Chloe Precious, Josie Hewson, Ruth Brazier, Abbi Webster, Ashlee Brack, Nikki Brown, Beth Clayton, Sara Renfrew, Jess Barnes, Katie Duckworth, Jazz Whitwell

subs: Alicia Smith
