York too good to go down - Saunders

Maidstone United boss Jay Saunders believes York City are far too good to be relegated.

The Stones visit Bootham Crescent for a vital six-pointer on Saturday with their opponents knowing that a fourth victory in five games would be sufficient to move above them and off the bottom of the table. Such is the importance of the contest they were staying overnight in York while stopping off to use Doncaster Rovers' training ground.

"I was speaking to Gary Waddock [Aldershot manager] and he said York are one of the best sides they've played recently," Saunders told the Kent Messenger. "They're big and strong with loads of experience. Let's be honest, they've come down from League 2 and they're not willing to go down again.

"For a club of that size to be struggling is a strange one but I do think they'll get out of the bottom four. I look at their squad and they've got too much to go down," he admitted. "They're on a good run, too, and I know some of those games have been in the FA Trophy but winning breeds confidence. I just look at the teams down there and with the squad and the budget they've got, I think they'll get out of it."

The visitors have striker Delano Sam-Yorke recovered from illness and groin trouble, with fellow forward Yemi Odubade [foot] expected to be named amongst their substitutes.

Good game and decent teams - Penney

York City assistant manager Dave Penney believes it was a case of a couple of well-matched teams following the 2-2 draw with Spennymoor Town at Bootham Crescent.

York City 2 Spennymoor Town 2

Both sides were denied a sixth consecutive victory as York City twice led against promotion rivals Spennymoor Town at Bootham Crescent.

On loan defender Jonny Burn's third goal in nine games earned them a half-time lead that was cancelled out by Ryan Hall soon after the restart.

But Aidan Connolly restored the home advantage with seventeen minutes remaining, although that was swiftly matched by Andrew Johnson as the honours were eventually shared.
