Big future for newcomer

Big future for newcomer

Manager Gary Mills was predicting a bright future for teenage striker Ryan Edmondson.

Although only recently turning sixteen, Edmondson, who hails from Knaresborough and already stands at 6' 2', has been involved in each of City's two pre-season friendlies so far, featuring for forty-five minutes against both Farsley Celtic and Scunthorpe United.

"I think the lad has got a good future and, if he plays against and with better players, he will only get better himself," Mills told The Press. "With the likes of Jon [Parkin] and Ranks [Michael Rankine], they're good pros who will teach Ryan in the right way. We're trying to involve him as much as we can and it's then up to him to show us he can step up to the mark."

Meanwhile, Mills appears likely to continue with his preferred 3-4-3 formation again this season, but with always the option of switching should the need arise.

"I like it and we have a group that can change to 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 whenever we feel we need to," he added. "We played it a bit differently to last season with Louis Almond in behind a front two, rather than a straight front three and I think that worked well."

Harrogate Town 2 York City 0

York City went down to a sobering 2-0 defeat to National League North leaders Harrogate Town at the CNG Stadium.

The Minstermen were soon in arrears to their neighbours after goalkeeper Jon Worsnop brought down Jordan Thewlis and Joe Leesley converted the penalty.

Their task became even more difficult early in the second-half, Liam Agnew's effort taking a big deflection past Worsnop. Skipper Sean Newton later struck an upright but a recovery never appeared likely.
