Video: Simon says double-figures the target
Midfielder Simon Heslop wants to reach double-figures in terms of goals following his excellent opening brace of the season at the weekend.
The 30-year-old York-born player produced a couple of really impressive finishes as the Minsteremen survived a late fightback by lowly Nuneaton Town before finally emerging as 4-3 winners at Bootham Crescent.
"We started the game well; the first 20-25 minutes, I thought we were good," Heslop told York's official YouTube channel. "Went two-nil up and I don't know whether we took our foot off the gas a little bit or got a little bit complacent.
"But the second twenty minutes of the second-half, I don't think was great," he admitted. "We came in at half-time and a few things were said to get ourselves going again. We then got in a good position in the game again and then seemed to get a little bit complacent towards the end - and we can't afford to do that at all.
"We're going to find ourselves on top in a lot of games and hopefully ahead convincingly in a lot of games. And we've got to make sure we don't throw any points away. We've been lucky today and got away with it and got the three points. But we were holding on a little bit at the end after being so comfortable in parts of the game.
"It's always nice to score but the result is the main thing," Heslop continued. "I caught the first one really well and obviously nice to back it up with a second in the second-half.
"I think between ten and fifteen goals is a reasonable target [for me this season], especially when we've got the 'three' [midfielders] in there and the solidity of a man behind allowing us to get forward. I think in a 'two' you've got to be more disciplined and it does make it a little bit harder to get forward."
