Manager Gary Mills said it was again a case of missed opportunities following York City's frustrating 1-1 draw with struggling Gainsborough Trinity at Bootham Crescent.

The Minstermen were forced to come from behind to rescue a point as defender Josh Law cancelled out Jonathan Wafula's 68th minute opener with fourteen minutes remaining. However, both Jon Parkin and substitute Michael Rankine then missed late chances to win it.

That leaves the hosts currently eight points behind the two leading clubs in the division, Harrogate Town and Salford City, with already a quarter of their league programme completed, having now surrendered an alarming ten points in their six home games.

"We've said it on two or three occasions at home already, if you don't take your chances you don't win football matches," Mills told BBC Radio York. "I think it's a frustrating night. They've set up and it's not a nice spectacle for football.

"But they've come to get a result and frustrate us and got the goal that they were hoping to get. And we've bounced back with an equaliser. And you don't get better chances to win the game but we haven't taken them.

"We went a little bit different second-half, we talked about it at half-time, which worked for us - and created numerous chances which we didn't take," he continued.

"They stopped our game plan and we changed it ten, fifteen minutes before half-time. It still didn't go into Jon [Parkin] as much as we would have liked in that last ten minutes. Me and Cas [Darren Caskey] were talking about let's get in and get the message over to them at half-time - and we did and it worked. We just didn't stick the ball in the net.

"I think my players have given everything tonight and we lost two games and have responded with seven points from three games," Mills added. "I've said 'well done, smile'; because we've been booed tonight when the final whistle went by certain parts. And I think we've been excellent the last three games to get seven points because we created a little bit of pressure [on] ourselves to do that.

"I've been pleased with my players and I'm going to keep it simple. I'm not going to try and overanalyse it as people try and do. We stick the ball in the net with the unbelievable chances we've had and and we win the game tonight."
