York City's new manager Martin Gray will be taking a very keen watching brief at tonight's FA Youth Cup tie against Harrogate Railway at Bootham Crescent (kick-off 7.45pm).

Forward duo Aaron Haswell and Ryan Edmondson have already been involved with the first-team this season while goalkeeper Ryan Whitley recently signed a two-year professional deal with the club.

"I had a quick five minutes with [youth-team manager] Steve Torpey and five minutes with the youth-team this morning," Gray told York's official YouTube channel. "I know we have got one or two real good prospects coming through.

"Youth is a big thing for me. We have got to invest in our own kids and this football club has always produced young kids and helped the club financially going forward," he added. "We will introduce two or three on a weekly basis on a Monday morning and get them in that environment, training with the first team.

"There are two or three kids that have been mentioned already that we are really keen to look at [tonight] and in training sessions."

Angry Gray blasts players

Manager Martin Gray was leaving no doubt exactly where he believes the blame lies after blasting the latest display at Curzon Ashton as an "embarrassment and disgrace".

Curzon Ashton 4 York City 1

York City produced a shockingly atrocious performance while crashing 4-1 to lowly part-timers Curzon Ashton at the Tameside Stadium.

Home striker Niall Cummins claimed a first-half hat-trick having already seen a penalty saved by the outstanding Adam Bartlett, with Sam Walker adding to it after the break.

The visitors then had leading goalscorer Jon Parkin given a straight red card before new signing Alex Kempster impressively replied on his debut after coming off the bench.
