City Futsal opener postponed

City Futsal opener postponed

York City Futsal's opening home Super League fixture with Cambridge United scheduled for this weekend has been postponed.

That is due to a clash with the Yorkshire Marathon on the same day. York therefore next visit the traditionally powerful Manchester Futsal the following week.

The Minstermen already made a superb start to their campaign on Sunday with a 3-1 victory at top-flight regulars Loughborough, courtesy of second-half goals from Daniel Pedras, Jamie Bettson and Robbie Bettson.

It leaves them currently fourth in the opening league table of the season, although neither London City nor Oxford City Lions have yet played.

Elsewhere, Reading Escolla absolutely thrashed Genesis 11-1, Birmingham triumphed 6-3 at Cambridge, London Helvecia beat Manchester 5-3, and FC Salisbury United narrowly edged out Tranmere Rovers 7-6.

Manager Martin Gray was leaving no doubt exactly where he believes the blame lies after blasting the latest display at Curzon Ashton as an "embarrassment and disgrace".

Curzon Ashton 4 York City 1

York City produced a shockingly atrocious performance while crashing 4-1 to lowly part-timers Curzon Ashton at the Tameside Stadium.

Home striker Niall Cummins claimed a first-half hat-trick having already seen a penalty saved by the outstanding Adam Bartlett, with Sam Walker adding to it after the break.

The visitors then had leading goalscorer Jon Parkin given a straight red card before new signing Alex Kempster impressively replied on his debut after coming off the bench.
