Defender Daniel Parslow said it was really important to start new manager Martin Gray's reign with a victory at the weekend.

The Minstermen's late triumph against promotion rivals Brackley Town was only their third at home this season, but should certainly raise confidence ahead of successive away trips to Leamington and Salford City.

"We've had a few poor results and with the change of manager we've had a good week on the training ground," Parslow told York's official YouTube channel while attending the latest York City Golf Day. "It's always positive to get off to a winning start under the new management team, so it's something to build on and hopefully we can continue that down at Leamington.

"The new gaffer and Dave [Penney] are very thorough; they know what they want and are quite straight talking," he added. "So as a player you get the message and everybody knows their jobs and it's just about performing on a Saturday. He's come in and set the tone and I think everyone's on board and buying into his ideas."

York City produced another deeply uninspiring display while being held 1-1 by lowly part-timers Alfreton Town at Bootham Crescent.

That was despite midfielder Simon Heslop earning them an early fifth-minute lead that was cancelled out by former York defender Tom Allan before the break.
