Little Charlotte on the ball

Little Charlotte on the ball

There was a special moment for young York City ball-girl Charlotte Rafferty during the weekend victory against Brackley Town at Bootham Crescent.

With the home side suddenly going close through a Hamza Bencherif header at a second-half corner, Charlotte, a member of York City Foundation's Under-10s Elite girls squad, was required to rescue the ball from directly in front of the David Longhurst Stand.

However, being far too small to throw it very far, she dutifully walked the ball all the way to the touchline and politely offered it to appreciative Brackley goalkeeper Daniel Lewis.

Charlotte was rewarded for her efforts with a warm round of applause from the home supporters while making her way back towards proud father Anthony, who later described the moment as "magic" for his daughter.

That was despite midfielder Simon Heslop earning them an early fifth-minute lead that was cancelled out by former York defender Tom Allan before the break.
