Midfielder never wanted to leave
Recalled midfielder Aidan Connolly has revealed he never had any intention of leaving York City.
The 22-year-old Scot was transfer-listed by former manager Gary Mills early last month alongside claims that he no longer wanted to play for the club.
However, the ex-Dundee United playmaker who scored City's late winner in the FA Trophy final back in May, was instantly recalled by new boss Martin Gray when selecting his opening starting line-up at the weekend.
"It was my first game back for a while and it felt nice to get out there again," Connolly told The Press. "I wasn't ever going to leave. I wanted to play and was always committed to the club.
"I never heard of any interest from other clubs and I just kept working hard behind the scenes, while staying positive and mentally strong," he added. "I want to play as high as I can during my career and, when you're not playing, it's sometimes hard to stay happy. Hopefully, I can go up the leagues with York."
