Stadium contractors appointed

Stadium contractors appointed

Contractors have finally been appointed to build the new community stadium.

City of York Council has revealed Buckingham Group Contracting Ltd as being chosen by Greenwich Leisure Ltd for the already massively delayed development at Monks Cross.

They replace previously named builders ISG, who withdrew from the project at the end of last year - with construction due to start this autumn.

"The new stadium, leisure facilities and the community hub will all open in 2019, along with the new cinema and commercial units," a council spokesperson told The Press.

The council also revealed that community partner agreements are expected to be signed for the stadium complex with York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and York Against Cancer; those adding to the current agreements already involving both York City FC and York City Knights.
