York City Ladies are still awaiting their first league points of the season after a narrow 1-0 defeat at second-placed Wallsend Boys Club Ladies.

The Minsterbelles were always likely to find it a stern challenge against opponents who'd previously scored twelve goals across their opening three league fixtures, while also smashing in eight without reply at Prudhoe Town in a League Cup tie.

However, Rebecca George scored the only goal of the contest during the second-half direct from a 35-yard free-kick to maintain their 100% league record.

Young defender Charlie Shaw was named as player of the game for the much-depleted visitors, who even included last season's top goalscorer Megan Bramham in goal.

Elsewhere, a surprise 3-1 victory for Castleford White Rose at Wakefield unfortunately simultaneously consigned the Belles to the bottom of the table.

At the opposite end of the division, leaders Durham Cestria secured a fourth success in five games with a 4-2 triumph at RACA Tynedale.

Otherwise, third-placed Norton & Stockton Ancients were made to work hard before eventually accounting for North East Regional Premier newcomers Farsley Celtic 2-0. Regulars Nyci Thorns and Sian Williams were both on the scoresheet.

Fellow recent arrivals Hartlepool United lost 4-2 at home to East Yorkshire Carnegie in the remaining game.

Newly-promoted Hartlepool are actually York's next scheduled visitors ahead of Castleford arriving at Haxby Road the following weekend.
