Teenager could get another chance

Teenager could get another chance

Former midfielder Tyler Walton has been revealed as one of the two unnamed trialists featuring for York City's reserves against Port Vale in midweek.

The teenager was released by previous manager Gary Mills back in May having experienced just a solitary substitute appearance, a 2-0 defeat at Torquay United in September 2016.

"I had just finished my lunch when the squad got put up and that's when I knew I was travelling," Walton had told The Press about his sudden City debut as a seventeen-year-old. "It was a bit of a shock and then I made the bench and got on.

"I got told to warm up and then heard my name get shouted," he added. "I thought 'is that me?' at first, but I was very excited to get out on the pitch."

He'd previously signed a first-ever one-year professional contract under another former boss, Jackie McNamara, four months earlier.

That followed him appearing as a trialist for the youth-team while studying at Leeds College, and similarly being involved in a North Riding Senior Cup tie against Guisborough Town.

Walton has also spent time at the Leeds United, Barnsley and Manchester City academies during his young career.

Good game and decent teams - Penney

York City assistant manager Dave Penney believes it was a case of a couple of well-matched teams following the 2-2 draw with Spennymoor Town at Bootham Crescent.

Both sides were denied a sixth consecutive victory as York City twice led against promotion rivals Spennymoor Town at Bootham Crescent.

On loan defender Jonny Burn's third goal in nine games earned them a half-time lead that was cancelled out by Ryan Hall soon after the restart.

But Aidan Connolly restored the home advantage with seventeen minutes remaining, although that was swiftly matched by Andrew Johnson as the honours were eventually shared.
