Video: Midfielder move breaks down

York City manager Martin Gray revealed that a move taking former skipper Simon Heslop away from Bootham Crescent has fallen through.

The 30-year-old midfielder announced that he no longer wanted to play for his hometown club and was dropped for their latest 2-1 home victory against Curzon Ashton.

However, an early departure for the former Wrexham, Torquay United, Mansfield Town, Stevenage and Oxford United playmaker has apparently broken down.

"He's no problem around the club, that's for sure," Gray told BBC Radio York. "He's come in and trained very well. But the deal he had is no longer on the table at the club he was going to. So that doesn't help anybody.

"He made it quite clear that he didn't want to play for York City," he added. "So I think that was that conversation taken care of."

And want-away Heslop isn't the only imminent departure from the club with possibly two or three more players heading out on loan.

"We've got to look to move players on or out on loan at this moment in time," Gray continued. "We've got to be very conservative. The chairman has only got so much support he can give us. He's given us fantastic support on making the [Adam] Bartlett deal happen.

"We've got to be conscious there'll be one or two players looking to go out on loan, hopefully before the weekend. I've just spoken to two or three players and need to tie those deals up this afternoon."

Meanwhile, midfielder Adriano Moke has been declared as available for the weekend visit to Alfreton Town, while England 'C' left-back David Ferguson is also back from midweek international duty.

Otherwise, on loan goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell has now returned to parent club Leeds United after making four appearances.
