Home draw suits City boss

Home draw suits City boss

Manager Martin Gray was perfectly satisfied with a home draw as York City begin their defence of the FA Trophy against Evo-Stik Premier Division outfit Coalville Town later this month.

The Minstermen's third qualifying round opponents are currently mid-table in the league directly below them, and will be arriving at Bootham Crescent over the weekend of Saturday 25th November.

"It's good that we got a home draw," Gray told BBC Radio York. "Any competition that you're playing in, the home draw hopefully gives you an advantage.

"They're a team in the league below us - and sitting mid-table. So this is a game that we're taking very, very seriously and expecting nothing but a hard game.

"This game will be treated no different to the Kidderminster game this weekend," he warned. "It's about preparing for the opposition and making sure you cover every corner and give yourself the best chance to win the game."

Twice-winners York are current holders of the FA Trophy having notably lifted it for a second time in five years while defeating Macclesfield Town at Wembley back in May.

"It's major," Gray insisted. "I think it was one of the real positives last season that they got to the final, and to win it was a fantastic day for everybody involved with the football club.

"So we're going to take the competition as serious as it was last year - and are hoping to progress as far as we can as well," he added.

"We have a big, strong squad here and more than capacity to do both [League and FA Trophy] this season. We've got to make sure that we give ourselves the best chance."
