Young keeper keen to extend stay

Young keeper keen to extend stay

York City's young goalkeeper Ryan Whitley is keen to extend his current loan arrangement at Whitby Town.

The eighteen-year-old prospect maintained a clean-sheet on his recent debut - and first-ever senior men's game - following a 0-0 shut-out with Stafford Rangers at the Turnbull Ground.

However, Whitley, who actually signed a two-year professional deal with boyhood favourites York back in August, is due to return to Bootham Crescent next month.

"It all depends on the next few weeks," he told the Whitby Gazette. "I'd like to stay at Whitby a bit longer.

"I feel I've settled in well here but ultimately it's up to [managers] Chris [Hardy] and Martin [Gray] at the end of this," Whitley added. "If I perform well in the next couple of games then there's a chance it'll happen. I've just got to keep showing what I can do."

Curzon Ashton 4 York City 1

York City produced a shockingly atrocious performance while crashing 4-1 to lowly part-timers Curzon Ashton at the Tameside Stadium.

Home striker Niall Cummins claimed a first-half hat-trick having already seen a penalty saved by the outstanding Adam Bartlett, with Sam Walker adding to it after the break.

The visitors then had leading goalscorer Jon Parkin given a straight red card before new signing Alex Kempster impressively replied on his debut after coming off the bench.
