Video: An important point - Gray

Manager Martin Gray believes the 1-1 draw with Kidderminster Harriers could yet turn into a very important point for York City come the end of the season.

However, they were eventually grateful for the prolific Jon Parkin's fourteenth goal of the campaign after Ryan Croasdale had earned their visitors a well-deserved advantage.

The Minstermen had actually been targeting a third straight victory following recent triumphs against Alfreton Town and Curzon Ashton, having not managed that particular feat during the last three-and-a-half years.

"We've got to take a lot out of that game today because, in my opinion, they're the best footballing team in the league - and have been for the last two seasons," Gray told BBC Radio York. "They beat Salford 5-0 last season because of their style of play. So you've got to look at the opposition and how they play - and how long they've played that way for, which suits their personnel.

"It could have been quite easy to let them dominate the whole game - and they did for big spells," he admitted. "But I thought we showed a great spell about fifteen minutes before half-time when Jon's [Parkin] free-kick got ourselves back in the game.

"We dug in and it's a really important point and I think over a season we'll look back and hopefully remember how important this point was today.

"What we showed was a great resilience and outstanding fitness levels - and had to be because otherwise we would have got beat very easily. And I think it's something to build on."

Despite that York continue to lose serious ground on the leaders with both Salford City and Harrogate Town winning elsewhere, although second-placed Brackley Town were beaten 2-0 at Bradford Park Avenue.

Angry Gray blasts players

Manager Martin Gray was leaving no doubt exactly where he believes the blame lies after blasting the latest display at Curzon Ashton as an "embarrassment and disgrace".

Curzon Ashton 4 York City 1

York City produced a shockingly atrocious performance while crashing 4-1 to lowly part-timers Curzon Ashton at the Tameside Stadium.

Home striker Niall Cummins claimed a first-half hat-trick having already seen a penalty saved by the outstanding Adam Bartlett, with Sam Walker adding to it after the break.

The visitors then had leading goalscorer Jon Parkin given a straight red card before new signing Alex Kempster impressively replied on his debut after coming off the bench.
